Frequently Asked Questions

  • The starting point of our approch is to stop considering the poor and vulnerable populations as a "burden" on the backs of society. On the contrary, we must work to enable them to become economic and social actors that produce "added value" and contribute to societal progress. They must have the chance, like others, of becoming innovative entrepreneurs.

  • When this view is shared by a significant number of men and women around the world, a new horizon of human development at the planet will emerge, especially in poor countries!

  • 1 - The transition from a relief and aid approach to a capacity building approach and the development of opportunities for the poor and populations at risk of marginalization.
    2 - To really consider disadvantaged social classes as important actors for development of their situations and the situation of their fellow citizens. This through the exploitation and enrichment of their potential and their effective involvement in the projects of the society.
    3 - To work for the cultural change which consists in changing the mentalities of these populations so that they have more confidence in their capacities and more hope in their future.
    4 - Dealing with the poor as real. Everyone should assume his or her roles and responsibilities.
    5 - Work to ensure, at best, the balance between social performance and economic performance.
    6 - Self-employment must be considered as the first pillar of the development of these populations. It is a strategic priority.

  • Islamic microfinance is a fundamental, if not the most fundamental, component of the social and solidarity economy. It is not a question of giving microcredits but rather of developing micro projects in a very creative way from their conception to their evaluation through their execution and control. It is based on the principles of Islamic finance but uses innovative tools for micro-project engineering: financing is only one component in a more global approach. Hence the importance of the systemic and globalizing approach of these projects that must fit into a longer value chain ranging from logistics and basic investments to marketing.

    Our approach to Islamic microfinance is also based on a set of more operational actions such as:

    • To know the situation of the beneficiary through the collection of information on the ground at their availability;
    • Estimation of the contribution of the poor in his micro project, however small it may be;
    • Seek funding for the project within the local community;
    • Rationalization of its of expenditures and meeting basic needs;
    • Accompaniment and support for its orientation and the reinforcement of its capacities.

    Islamic microfinance, which aims primarily at the economic empowerment of the poor, can fulfill its mission only if it succeeds in eliminating six obstacles:

    • Non-confidence of these populations on their potential: cultural change;
    • No access to investment opportunities necessary for project success;
    • The non-existence of believing partners in the profitability of such projects: intelligent partnerships;
    • The lack of infrastructure necessary for the success of such projects;
    • Adequate funding: project engineering;
    • No access to markets.

  • 1 - Individual projects where the beneficiary is the individual alone.
    2 - Individual solidarity projects: the beneficiaries form a solidarity group, united by special relationships. The number can reach thousands (like agricultural projects). Everyone has their own project, but solidarity is for everyone to contribute, in one form or another, to the success of others' projects.
    3 - Group projects or beneficiaries form a single team for a single project.
    4 - Sustainable villages that provide a range of services for people such as camps in times of crisis or villages far from urban centers.
